Decisions of Indian government

August 30th : Article in « The Telegraph (London).
After the acceptance by indian government of tiger numbers evaluated by Wildlife Institute of India (1300/1500 tigers, on August 3rd, after a controversy since May 24th), Prime Minister has taken personal control on a new attempt to save tigers from extinction. He has set up a new autonomous National Tiger Conservation Authority with powers to oversee more effective management of reserves.
He said he wants « to see results before the end of the year ».
Diane Walkington (WWF) said she’s hopeful : « Fortunately, tigers will breed like rabbits given the right conditions. The most important thing is to connect tiger populations that are still viable. We must extend their areas and build links to their habitats so they can migrate from one place to another. If necessary, we must move wild tigers from one place to another ».
Will communication be truly followed by action and concrete results (verified by independant organizations) ? The tragedy of Panna might induce it…
