Only 500 tigers in 27 indian reserves

May 24th : Publication by the Times of India results of a census realized by Wildlife Institute of India (on the basis of a governmental demand) in 27 of the 38 tiger reserves of the country. They would have near 500 tigers. Results for 11 last reserves will be published in next December.
These results completely nullify official numbers as almost 3000 tigers (and even 3700 in 2002), globally stable since more than 20 years. In some cases, official census establish a crunch in prey populations like deers and boars, but an increase in tiger numbers, which is ecologically impossible.
Politico administrative authorities have immediately contested results of Wildife Institute of India (thus ordered by them), and indicated they will propose their own numbers in december 2007.
