Oriental China is the country were the tige ris born.During mid and upper Pleistocene periods, the animal was present everywhere on this territory, and was so numerous, genetically diverse and ecologically dominant that such a density was no more approached anywhere in the world after this epoch.
A very powerful tiger culture was dominant in northern China, and then everywhere in the country.
But other important elements in Chinese history have implicated several heavy ruptures between men and wild animals.
Today, there are very few wild tigers in China. Their only possibility of survival is the hope of success of Li Quan action. The President of the Association « Save Chinas Tigers » has initiated a rewilding program of Southern Chinese tigers in South African areas, before a future relocalization of their cubs in wild chinese regions.
Futrhermore, many bengal and siberian tigers are present in breeding centers (« tiger farms »). They are now several thousands. A very important question is : what is going to be done with these tigers ?
